Productive Educators Newsletter: #171

"competence over sentiments, any time and any day..."

Hello Reader,

A few months ago I got an email to come speak at a school. Unfortunately, I had other engagements for that same day.

Since I couldn't attend due to my schedule, I immediately scrolled through my contact to see who I could recommend.

I do that a lot when my hands are full.

There's no point overburdening myself when I have capable hands in my special education community.

Because the date was so close, I had to get someone who's not just available and capable to speak to this particular type of audience, but someone that won't spoil what I have going with the school.

Now that's where I made a silly mistake!

You see, before that email, I have engaged with that school a few times to do my job. We have something good going on.

But the oga madam I recommended threw caution to the wind and almost ruined everything.

Just to keep the suspense going, I will not tell you the specifics of what they did. Lol!

However this is what I want you to do before you make referrals. Ask yourself this question… WILL THIS CLIENT/CUSTOMER'S TRUST FOR ME END AFTER THIS RECOMMENDATION? IF PERADVENTURE, I LOSE THIS CLIENT/CUSTOMER AFTER THIS RECOMMENDATION, WILL IT AFFECT MY REPUTATION?

If your answer is YES, please cast out any spirit of sentiment and recommend someone else.

Competence over sentiments! Any time. Any day.

Let your story not be the case of the tortoise that drowned while trying to save his friend, the scorpion.

I hope this helps.

To your success and that of your students.
